Torpoint Slipways

The Torpoint Ferry is a car and pedestrian chain ferry, connecting the A374 road which crosses the Hamoaze, a stretch of water at the mouth of the River Tamar, between Devonport in Plymouth and Torpoint in Cornwall.

Client was suffering with traction problems with the ferry slipway, after initial consultation with the UK’s number one surface preparation company, an agreement was put in principle for the works to require minimal disruption & maintenance to Tamar’s daily operations.

JMS were chosen to retexture concrete slipway areas of approximately 6700m2 by scarifying successfully in 2019.

Due to the accessibility of the slipways, all works had to be scheduled for low tides.
